Bull Thistle
Bull Thistle is a member of the sunflower family and is native to Europe, Asia and Africa. It is thought to have been introduced accidentally during colonial times.
Bull Thistle is a biennial plant, meaning it lives for two years, produces seeds and then dies. The first year rosette is dark green and covered in spines. The second year plant can reach 1-6 feet tall, is covered in spines, and has flowers that are pink to purple in color. Bull Thistle is a problem because it competes with native plants and provides no value to wildlife. It can also block off recreation areas and make impenetrable stands. |
